Putting
Any hallway. Ceiling irrelevant. A roll-out green needs floor and nothing else — no setback, no negotiation with the furnace room.
Irons & wedges
Most golfers need 8′6″–9′ of ceiling [VERIFY] and about 9′ of net setback so the ball has room to slow before it meets the netting.
Driver & simulator
Plan for 9′6″–10′ of ceiling [VERIFY]. Measure your tallest swing point, not your height — the club adds a couple of feet at the top.
The rule of thumb: measure the highest point your club reaches at the top of your backswing and again at the top of your follow-through, then add a few inches of comfort. If the number worries you, start with putting and short game — that's where the scores hide anyway.
